January 21 is Thank Your Mentor Day. It’s a day that we celebrate mentors and thank them for all of the work that they do to help the young people in the community.
Recently, the Mentorship Program at CHV celebrated its ninth anniversary.
At CHV, mentorship looks very differently for every individual. Youth are matched with a mentor based on what the youth requests. They may ask for a supportive adult role model, they might get matched based on a hobby or interest, youth may want to be mentored from a career perspective, or youth could be matched with a mentor based on multiple interests.
This year, the young people who have worked with mentors wanted to celebrate all that mentors have done for them, by writing thank-you notes:*
“Thank you to all of the mentors who have volunteered their time and efforts to help and guide us with our goals and aspirations. Not only do mentors allow us to gain outside and professional perspective, but they also set great examples for us, as mentees, to return the favour to a future generation, when we are able to. ”
“Mentors are like stars, you don’t always see them, but they are always there. Thank you for being my mentor. Your guidance and support have been so important in my success and journey.”
“My mentor is a great person. She’s kind, funny, and absolutely supportive. I really appreciate her time and effort to make me feel safe and supported. Not only that, but she is also a genuine and honest person. I feel really lucky to have her as my mentor.”
“Hey, I heard it’s Thank Your Mentor Day! How cute is that? 😆 I know that we’ve only really seen each other three times, but I couldn’t pass on this opportunity. People like you [my mentor] are a reminder to the rest of the world that kind, great people exist.”
“Looking forward to our next adventures. I can’t wait to do things I’ve never got a chance to do, with such great company. Thank you to my mentor for being there for me. You’ve already made a difference, just being that reminder to me 😊. Here’s to a very fun 2025, with great memories. I’m grateful to have you in my life.”
“For my mentor to share his experience as a BCIT alumni and software developer has been invaluable for my growth as a fellow alumni and current IT student. I always look forward to him coming over for a night of Mario Kart, Mario Party, or a Kevin Smith movie.”
Thank you to all of the mentors who support the young people at CHV! And thank you to all mentors in the community who are making a difference in someone’s life, every day.
If you are interested in becoming a mentor at CHV, we currently have some skill-specific openings. If you would like to learn more about the Mentorship Program, or if you have any questions, you can contact us by email at mentorship@covenanthousebc.org.
