International Day of Charity

What began as an initiative to commemorate the work of Mother Teresa, who helped others overcome poverty, became a day that was declared as International Day of Charity, by the UN.

Today, International Day of Charity is an opportunity to recognize organizations who do charitable work and provides the opportunity for people to get involved, through charitable acts.

Covenant House Vancouver (CHV) is committed to serve all youth with relentless support, absolute respect, and unconditional love; to help youth experiencing homelessness; and to protect and safeguard all youth in need.

CHV is over 90% privately funded, which means that we couldn’t do the work that we do, without the support from the community. We are grateful that so many people believe that youth are the future and know that the community won’t thrive unless we all thrive.

From individuals to institutions, everyone who supports Covenant House Vancouver is making a difference in the community, and for the vulnerable youth in that community. Here are just a few examples of how charitable acts can make such a huge impact:

Scotiabank has been a supporter of Covenant House for over 12 years! They were a part of our expansion project that resulted in our amazing facility at 1280 Seymour Street, which has enabled us to increase our programs and services to vulnerable youth.

Double and Triple Match Campaign donors have supported initiatives like Covey’s Cupboard, Emergency Weather Beds, and mental health support.

In addition to monetary donations, gifts in kind help clothe vulnerable youth and support their work and educational endeavours. Individuals like Zac and his passion to help those on the street resulted in an annual campaign called the ZacPac Project. When Maritz held their conference in Vancouver, not only did they raise funds to help youth, but also worked with Bombas to provide youth with a thousand pairs of socks. RIDE CYCLE CLUB, Levi’s, Opus Art Supplies, Vessi Shoes, the list goes on. We can’t possibly name everyone and every organization, but we are so grateful for their support.

No charity could survive without their faithful and inspiring volunteers! We are so grateful for the volunteers who help out in the kitchen, take youth on field trips, mentor youth, come in to decorate, write thank you notes, and so much more.
