September can be an exciting time: the seasons are on the cusp of change and school is about to recommence in full swing. But for many youth that we support, the back-to-school season can bring with it mixed emotions and a great deal of stress, long before the first school bell rings.
At Covenant House Vancouver (CHV), we recognize that education is more than just a pathway to academic success—it’s a gateway to empowerment and personal transformation. For the youth we support, many of whom have faced significant challenges, education offers them a chance to change their trajectories and to pursue their dreams and goals.
But to fully embrace these opportunities, youth need the right tools and resources. Our community has consistently come through to support these young people and we’re asking once again for your help.
A new backpack, fresh notebooks and planners, and pens are not only essential supplies, but gifts of inspiration and confidence that show youth that they are valued, deserving, and supported on their educational journeys.
While all donations are appreciated, we are especially in need of:
- Backpacks
- Coiled notebooks
- Day planners
- Calendar whiteboards
- Power banks (portable chargers)
- Phone chargers (cords)
- Earbuds
- Ballpoint pens
- Water bottles
- Runners (sizes 9 through 13)
- Umbrellas
- Sport shorts (sizes 32 and 34)
We are also always in need of small toiletries, like hotel soaps, shampoos, and toothpaste.
With your support, we can help ensure that every young person at CHV has the opportunity to head to school with hope—like Carmen.
While Carmen was at CHV, she worked with a team of youth workers, social workers, and counsellors and began to set goals that aligned with who she was. Being fluent in five languages with a love of linguistics, Carmen pursued post-secondary courses in linguistics, and graduated with a degree, before going on to become a language educator.
