Newmont’s Dedication: Transforming Lives with Covenant House Vancouver

On the tails of  National Volunteer Week, everyone here at Covenant House Vancouver would like to thank our long-time supporters, Newmont, for their unwavering support and dedication to youth experiencing homelessness in our community. A team from Newmont recently volunteered their time and energy to help set up the youth residential suites at 326 Pender Street — home to our Rights of Passage program. Newmont’s enthusiastic team of volunteers helped to prepare the new spaces by building desk chairs, making beds, pulling together cutlery and utensil kits, and much more. Amanda Merler, Manager of Volunteer Services at CHV, expressed her gratitude for their work. “The volunteer team from Newmont was a pleasure to work with. They were helpful, organized, and extremely efficient. They went above and beyond, and took the initiative to complete tasks that weren’t even a part of their assigned checklist. We were grateful to have their support in preparing the building for move-in day.”

Petrina Torgerson, Manager of Sustainability and External Relations at Newmont, reflected on the day’s experience: “Members of Newmont’s Vancouver office recently had the opportunity to support the Covenant House team in pulling together the finishing touches of their 326 West Pender Street location. Our team was impressed by the warm and welcoming space that Covenant House Vancouver has designed for youth entering the Rights of Passage program. The rooms are cozy and nicely designed with workspaces and lots of light. They should be perfect for fulfilling the vision of the program, and to foster a collaborative community environment. We look forward to hearing more about how things are going at 326 West Pender Street.”

With their tremendous support of our expansion project, Newmont has played a pivotal role in Covenant House Vancouver’s growth over the years and continues to have a lasting impact on the lives of the young people we serve.

Newmont, we are immensely grateful for your continued support in all its forms. Thank you for the kindness and compassion that you show to the bright, deserving young people that we see every day.

This week, we celebrate you!
