Celebrating National Volunteer Week: Thank You Holiday Volunteers

Thank you to our amazing Hope for the Holidays volunteers!

This year, our largest haul of Hope for the Holidays backpacks yet was packed, with 375 backpacks given out to youth at the annual Drop-In and Outreach (Community Support Services) holiday party. Any youth in the Crisis Program and the Rights of Passage program received theirs on December 25 (Christmas Day).

The Caring Calendar (similar to the advent calendar) was a small item or experience that was gifted from December 1– December 24 for each youth in the Crisis and Rights of Passage programs. Items ranged from new socks and slippers to PJs and spa nights. There were also experiences such as going to the Capilano Suspense Bridge to look at the lights and a group gingerbread-house decorating opportunity.

The backpacks were packed on Saturday December 16 by a team of more than 40 volunteers. Contents included toiletries, first aid kits, warm socks, toques, gloves, and some holiday treats, plus a whole lot of love from every one on the team.

From November  until December 16, we welcomed 24 different corporate community groups as well as 120 individual volunteers to support our holiday program. The holiday program saw 960 hours provided by our loyal and supportive volunteers.

All of this speaks to how incredible an impact all your time has had on the youth at Covenant House, so from all of us — Thank You!
