Yesterday was an incredible day for Covenant House Vancouver, as we had the honour of participating in RBC We Care Wednesdays, alongside RBC and the Vancouver Canadians. The energy and support surrounding the event were truly remarkable, and we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity extended to us by RBC.
The atmosphere at Nat Bailey Stadium was charged with excitement as we gathered to cheer on the Vancouver Canadians against the Hillsboro Hops. The pregame ceremony not only set the stage for a day filled with camaraderie, but it also presented an unforgettable moment for a young person who accesses Covenant House Vancouver’s services, who was invited to throw out the first pitch, to officially kick off the game. For this young person, a devoted baseball fan, this opportunity was particularly powerful, as they mentioned it would remain etched in their memory for years to come. Accompanied by other Covenant House Vancouver youth and supportive staff members, this youth’s moment in the spotlight symbolized far more than just a ceremonial pitch — it embodied a sense of belonging, inclusion, and recognition, and fostered a profound sense of pride and joy.
Many other Covenant House Vancouver youth were treated to a night of baseball and fun, an experience that held immense significance for them. For these young individuals, many of whom have faced immense challenges and adversity, being able to participate in such a special event, alongside their peers and trusted staff, was nothing short of transformative. It was a chance to escape the hardships of their daily lives, if only for a few hours, and enjoy the simple pleasures of laughter, camaraderie, and shared experiences. Their smiles throughout the evening served as an important reminder of the profound impact that moments of joy and connection can have in the lives of vulnerable youth.
As we reflect on yesterday’s events, we are reminded of the power of community and compassion and of the transformative potential inherent in simple acts of kindness and inclusion. Through initiatives like RBC We Care Wednesdays, we are not only raising awareness for vital causes but also fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment for those who need it most. RBC’s invitation for us to participate in We Care Wednesdays not only provided us with a platform to showcase our work but also highlighted their commitment to uplifting local charities. like ours. We are grateful to RBC for their support and for inviting us to be a part of We Care Wednesdays!
Additionally, we extend our appreciation to the Vancouver Canadians for providing a platform that amplifies the work of non-profits and allows us to showcase our impact and achievements. The Canadians’ dedication to our cause makes a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable youth, and we are honoured to partner with them.
Together, we are building a future where every young person feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
