Sysco British Columbia Supports Covenant House Vancouver

Covenant House Vancouver is thrilled to announce a generous donation of $5,000 from the Sysco British Columbia team. This contribution comes as part of their annual Nourishing Neighbours charitable campaign, where Sysco actively contribute to their communities by allocating funds to organizations that align with their purpose. As the global leader in selling, marketing, and distributing food and non-food products, Sysco plays a vital role in supporting initiatives that address food insecurity and nourish those in need.

Food plays a significant role in meeting the basic needs of the youth served by Covenant House. Whether it’s a simple sandwich provided by our Outreach workers, the nutritious meals prepared daily in our Crisis Program, or the fresh meals and snacks available at our Drop-in Centre, food serves as a tangible expression of love and support. Many young individuals who come to Covenant House Vancouver are malnourished, and face the detrimental effects that food insecurity has on their physical and mental well-being.

In light of National Nutrition Month, we are reminded of the importance of access to nutritious meals for vulnerable populations. Despite the challenges posed by rising food costs, Covenant House Vancouver remains committed to providing essential services, including meals, life skills programs, and holistic support, to youth in need. In 2023 alone, our kitchen prepared a staggering 119,080 meals, which demonstrates our unwavering dedication to addressing food insecurity and promoting well-being among youth experiencing homelessness.

The escalating costs of food pose a significant challenge for vulnerable youth striving to meet their nutritional needs. As food prices continue to rise, accessing nutritious meals becomes even more daunting for those already facing economic hardship. Covenant House Vancouver has experienced a significant increase in weekly food costs, up to 28% depending on the food group, compared to the same period last year, which reflects the broader trend of inflation. Despite these challenges, our commitment to providing essential services, including meals, remains constant.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Sysco British Columbia for their generous contribution, which helps us continue to serve nutritious meals and snacks to youth accessing Covenant House Vancouver’s programs year-round. Your support plays a pivotal role in our ability to ensure that every young person who walks through our doors receives the nourishment they need to thrive. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of homeless youth and empower them to build brighter futures. Thank you, Sysco BC, for standing with us in our mission.
