What began as an initiative to commemorate the work of Mother Teresa, who helped others overcome poverty, the day was declared as an international holiday, by the UN.
Today, International Day of Charity is an opportunity to recognize organizations who do charitable work and provides the opportunity for people to get involved, through charitable acts.
Covenant House Vancouver (CHV) is committed to serve all youth with relentless support, absolute respect, and unconditional love; to help youth experiencing homelessness; and to protect and safeguard all youth in need.
CHV is over 90% privately funded, which means that we couldn’t do the work that we do, without the support from the community. We are grateful that so many people believe that youth are the future and know that the community won’t thrive unless we all thrive.
We have all felt the effects of inflation and the rising cost of food. Vulnerable youth feel it too, and the demand for CHV’s programs and services has never been greater.
However, as a community, we can help youth thrive though supporting organizations that work with these youth.
If you would like to become involved with CHV, there are many ways that you can do that. You can:
- Make a donation — once, monthly, in memory, or in honour. Your generosity provides food, shelter, and medical attention for some of the most vulnerable in our community.
- Leave a legacy — Leave a legacy of hope and transformation with a gift in your will or a gift of stocks and securities to Covenant House Vancouver.
- your organization — Your generous support, through your corporation, business, or organization, will go directly to providing food, shelter, clothing, and counselling to youth in need.
- gifts in kind —You can donate school supplies, food, clothing, your car, or Aeroplan points.
- DIY event — Each year individuals, work colleagues, students and community groups rally to raise crucial funds and awareness for Covenant House. You can help provide relentless support to youth in our care through your fundraising event! We provide the platform and are here to help you succeed.
- school event —You and your school can make a huge difference in the lives of homeless and at-risk youth. Funds raised through your school event, will be used to help to meet the immediate needs of youth experiencing homelessness, by providing them with food, clothing, a warm bed, and so much more.
- Volunteer with us —Mentor, lead an excursion, support an event, or become and ASL interpreter.
- Sleep Out — For those who want to participate first hand in raising funds for vulnerable youth. This extraordinary event has been referred to by so many participants as life changing!
There are so many ways that you can become involved with CHV! We hope that you will join our Covey family and support youth in need.
