Thank You, Krista!

Today, is both an uplifting and exciting time as well as an emotional one.

Our beloved CEO, Krista Thompson, is moving on to the next chapter of her life. Today Krista passes the CEO baton to Herb Eibensteiner. As Krista puts it, “Herb cares deeply about the young people we serve and has the heart and leadership that Covenant House Vancouver needs for this next important stage of our growth.”

On June 24th, staff gathered on the 4th floor of the new Drake building with Krista to share a slice of pizza, some dessert, a few memories, and lots of well wishes.

Over the last few weeks, there has been an opportunity for many people to share their thoughts about Krista, and if we had to sum up, in one word, what Krista would be remembered for, after 16 years of service, that word would be heart.

As CHV’s Director of Communications and Marketing, Kristy Hayter, so eloquently put it,

I have had the privilege of working with Krista during her time at CHV. When I think of Krista, and the impact she has had, three words come to mind: vision, strategy, and heart. Krista brought a level of leadership and vision that changed how we work for the better. By encouraging the adoption of innovative best practices, paired with thoughtful planning and procedures, her vision, coupled by thoughtful strategy, has helped us to grow into the nonprofit that we are today. But I think what is extra special about Krista and her leadership is that she has always brought her heart, and the hearts of the young people into everything she does.

John Harvey, Chief Program Officer at CHV, echoed Kristy’s comments,

How do you define a legacy? You could define it as an increase in our operating budget, an increase of staff from 75 to 200+, and two new buildings, but if you stopped there, you would be remiss. Krista’s legacy will be the love that she brought to Covenant House. Her love of youth, first and foremost; staff; donors; volunteers; and anyone who came alongside and wanted to help. She brought out the best in people. She held us and the agency to high standards. We will miss you, Krista, but we wish you the best on your next chapter.

From all of us at Covenant House Vancouver, thank you, Krista, for your leadership, your strategic vision, and most of all, for your heart. You will be missed, but we are all excited to hear about the new chapter that you are about to embark on.

With the utmost love and respect, your family at Covenant House Vancouver.

Thank you, Baked by Jenn Le-Campbell, for the incredible dessert!
