Members of the Garden Club of Vancouver recently visited the rooftop garden at Covenant House’s Pender Street home for a thank you party to recognize and celebrate the Garden Club’s support.
Through a fundraiser held last spring, Garden Club members helped transform the garden to create a welcoming and beautiful outdoor space for youth at Covenant House Vancouver. As one youth who attended the party said, “I have an artistic side and it really makes a difference to have this outdoor space where I can come to relax and be creative.”
The Garden Club’s donated funds were used to install new decking, build a gazebo to provide shelter from sun and rain, purchase a new BBQ, outdoor furniture, and new pots to plants some herbs and vegetables.
Stay tuned for some exciting activities made possible by the garden. For example, volunteers are planning a pizza party with the youth where they will use fresh ingredients grown on the rooftop.
