Covenant House Vancouver was fortunate to receive a gift of $25,000 from The Home Depot Canada Foundation’s Affordable Housing Grant program.
The grant will be used to repair and upgrade the washrooms of our Drake Street Crisis Shelter, allowing us to add another female shower, an additional male toilet, and improve handicapped and private facilities to better accommodate the diversity of youth using the shelter. We will also be able to ensure the environmental sustainability of the shelter by installing low-flow toilets and faucets and high-efficiency showerheads. To ensure that these renovations are for the long-term and therefore a minimal impact on the environment, we will also be replacing existing drywall next to the shower stalls and toilet partitions with aqua or cementitous board and ceramic wall tiles which will be far more resilient to water damage and high use, and are easily cleanable to prevent mold and bacteria growth.
A big thank you to The Home Depot Canada Foundation for making this project a reality for the over 300 youth who will access our Drake Street shelter this year!
