How do I want the world to be different because I lived in it?

This is a question that many of us ask ourselves at various points in our lives. It can spring up at any moment and boggle us with the sheer impact it has on our mind. It is a powerful question which causes us to ponder our future, past and mortality. Most importantly it is a question that calls us to action. It inspires us to make plans and take the steps necessary towards reaching our goals.

I have the privilege of working with special friends of Covenant House who have chosen to leave a legacy to our youth. These individuals have made a gift in their will, named us a beneficiary of a life insurance policy or bank account, or established named endowment funds, a way by which they can give back to our youth forever.  Part of their answer to the question is that they want to have an impact on reducing or eliminating youth homelessness during their lifetimes and after.

Consequently something unexpectedly profound happens. By answering the above question, through a legacy gift to Covenant House Vancouver, these people pose the same question to our youth. Our young people, with the help of the programs and services we offer, leave our care with the opportunity to do something they never could before. They head out into the world with bright independent futures before them, asking themselves: ‘How do I want the world to be different because I lived in it?’

If you would like to discuss opportunities for leaving a legacy to the kids at Covenant House Vancouver, please contact, Crystal Montecalvo at 604-639-8934 or cmontecalvo@covenanthousebc.org.

Links and why we love them

As defined by About.com at http://personalweb.about.com/cs/glossary/g/link.htm links mean:

“When you are on a Web page and you see the blue, often underlined text, that makes the cursor from your mouse change shape, that is a link. If you click on a link it will take you to another page or another site. You find information on the Internet by clicking through to links you are interested in.”

We often link to other people’s blogs, stories or websites and we have a page dedicated to links for our peers, friends and other bloggers.

We are inviting everyone to link to our homepage www.covenanthousebc.org or to our blog “On The House” http://www.covenanthousebc.org/blog.

By linking to other organizations we all get more exposure and learn about other great causes, groups and information.

Thanks for the link love!

We need you to keep voting each and every day right until the very end including the weekends. We seem to be stuck at third place and we only have 21 days left to vote. So please keep voting, tweeting and facebooking about Covenant House Vancouver and the Pepsi Refresh project.

Remember we need your vote if we are going to win $100,000.00 to help Vancouver's homeless young people.
